On March 30, 2020 Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-39-20, authorizing the Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) to waive any of the professional licensing requirements relating to healing arts licensees in Division 2 of the Business and Professions Code, and any accompanying regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the examination, education, experience, and training requirements necessary to obtain and maintain licensure, and requirements governing the practice and permissible activities for licensees.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued several waivers to assist licensees in meeting their continuing education requirements for their license renewals.  Licensees MUST still renew their licenses in their expiration month, failure to do so will render the license expired and will go into forfeiture status if not renewed within 60 days following the expiration date of the license.

DCA Waiver 20-63 has been given an expiration date of December 31, 2021 by the Department of Consumer Affairs per Waiver 21-203.
This waiver became effective on September 23, 2020 and allowed chiropractic licensees to attend an excess of 12 hours of distance learning if earned via synchronous and interactive online webinars – the Board has referred to this format as an Interactive Video Conference.

After December 31, 2021, the maximum number of continuing education (CE) hours completed via distance learning will be reinstated to
twelve (12) and licensees will once again be required to attend CE courses in person for a minimum of twelve (12) hours.

Interactive Video Conferences that have been approved by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners and are taken on or before
December 31, 2021 will be accepted and will count as the classroom hours for the licensee’s current renewal period.
