UPDATE: 12/15/20 Please read in its ENTIRETY

On March 30, 2020 Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-39-20, authorizing the Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) to waive any of the professional licensing requirements relating to healing arts licensees in Division 2 of the Business and Professions Code, and any accompanying regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the examination, education, experience, and training requirements necessary to obtain and maintain licensure, and requirements governing the practice and permissible activities for licensees.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued several waivers to assist licensees in meeting their continuing education requirements for their license renewals.

Licensees Affected: Dept. of Consumer Affairs Waiver: Synopsis:
All Licensees DCA Waiver 20-63
Effective 9/23/2020
All licensees are able to complete the 12 hours of classroom credit through courses offered on an interactive video conference platform (Zoom).
DCA Waiver 20-69
Effective 10/22/2020
March-December 2020 licensees can postpone their 24 hours of continuing education credit. Hours must be completed prior to April 22nd , 2021.
DCA Waiver 20-89
Effective 12/15/2020
January-February 2021 licensees can postpone their 24 hours of continuing education credit.  Hours must be completed prior to June 15th, 2021.

Licensees MUST still renew their licenses in their expiration month, failure to do so will render the license expired and will go into forfeiture status if not renewed within 60 days following the expiration date of the license. This waiver does not change the due date of the counting education credits per
DCA waiver DCA-20-53.

Licensees may not apply this rule to web-based conferences they have previously taken prior to the effective date of these waivers. It may only be applied to courses going forward. Example: a live web-based course taken in July 2020 will count as 12 hours of traditional distance learning credit.
